I graduated from McGill in 2004 and have been working in Calgary for the last 3 years. I am applying to Law School and am asking my high school teachers for reference letters instead of my McGill profs. I attended a small private school in Calgary and believe that my teachers know me better than my university profs...in fact, I'm not even sure that my university profs will know who I am! Are letters of reference from high school teachers less valuable or am I making the right decision?
Answer Hi, Jen.
Check with the schools you are applying to. They may require that a certain number letters be from university professors. After you meet that requirement, then anyone should be ok. My only concern is that it is probably better to have more current references.

If you need to do some work on improving or maximizing your LSAT score, please give me a call right away. I know the Canadian schools are very competitive and seem to have early deadlines. There is quite a bit you can do to improve on the test. I work with students on it internationally. Likewise, I'm available to help with personal statements.
