Help with College & Grad School Applications - conceptual report

Question
Hi Jay! I am a Ugandan and aspiring to join a university in Germany (via a scholarship), offering a course in Automotive engineering. My puzzle is:- I have been requested to write a conceptual paper justifying the relevance of automotive engineering in my country. What contents a conceptual paper of that kind? I am stuck! Thanks.

Answer
Hi, Stephen.

Well, this is about outside my usual areas of advice!

You might start by asking the school what their concerns are and what they are looking for in such a paper.  Is it simply an example of your writing or are they concerned that there is no relevance?  It is not particularly fair for them to not give you some idea.

If they still don't give you an idea, then you can simply start with a background on automotive engineering in Uganda, a description of the needs as you see them and your suggestions of how those needs can be met.  You might back it up with references to existing articles and research.

Hope that helps.  Good luck.
