Question
I have had anemia most of my life and recently started iron supplements again.  Have been on them for almost 6 months but my ferritin level is still low and so is my hemoglobin.  What now?  Why am I not absorbing the iron?

Answer
CBM,
Please send your lab results if you have them. Your doctor needs to treat the issue which is causing chronic iron deficiency. Also if oral iron supplements are not working for you take iron sucrose 100mg intravenous injections weekly once for a month. Then check whether there is any improvement. Also get CBC, stool examination, peripheral blood smear done. It will give you an idea about what is causing chronic anemia.

Thanking you!
