Subject: Harvesting and drying Stevia and Lavendar

Question
I am new to growing herbs and want to know how I can use them, such as the fragrance of lavendar and using the Stevia for tea and coffee sweetening.

Answer
Lisa:
Start to cut branches when they are over 12" long. Place in a bag to dry or place in nylon mesh & place in closets, drawers chests. Add to dryer in a nylon stocking. Add to your wash cycle in a nylon stocking. Place a cupfull in a blender with a cup or more of water & blend, then strain & add to spray bottle. Place in your iron. Use color clothes first to see if stains. Use spray on your sofa, bed linen, car upholstery, kitchen counter tops, humidifier & bath water. Store in cool dark area for 30 days or less.
Stevia,
Cut it as lavender. Prune evey branch by 1/3 from the top down every 3 weeks, feed a liquid fish fertilizer at the same time. It may be purchased from home depot/lowe's. Use fresh with 1-3 leaves to a cup of hot liquid. All the branches pruned can be placed in a bag until dried. Place dried leaves into a blender and pulverized. Store in a dark color glass jar & add to drinks. You have to experiment with the amount to use until you get the right amount. Stevia is said to give you energy. The stalks are sweet. Use as stirrers. Each leaf is 1/10 of a calorie and will not raise sugar levels in diabetics. I have a little more about stevia, but I am on my wife's conputer.I will have mine back in a week.
