Experience
I have been growing herbs organically for 27 years. I have also written and self-published, loose leaf binder, "Herbmans Journal". 2008 is my last year at Smile Herb Shop. I plan to grow herbs in my small back yard and sell at David's Natural Store in Columbia, Md. on saturdays. I aso will return to the Baltimore Herb Festival in May 2009(memorial day weekend).I used the word organically grown, but the state came into the picture and stated that I could not use the word unless I become certified. I decided to add to my name (99% chemical-free) since nothing on this planet is 100%, except Jesus, taxes & death. My customers were satisfied with this instead of paying a large fee and raise my prices, with no guarantee that it is organic except for a label.Their belief was in my word.

Subject: Rosemary bush

Question
I just bought a small (about 2 ft tall) rosemary bush - shaped like a small tree.  It looks very healthy with just a small section near the bottom that has some dead branches.

I've read a little about this bush, but need more advice.  I live in Ohio and had hoped to keep this bush in a nice large pot on my outdoor patio.  Will it live there?  Ohio gets close to 5 to 10 degrees above zero some winters.  Is that ok?   Should I bring it indoors when we have alot of snow?

Answer
D:
Your rosemary is probably the tender one. If it is not called "Arp or "hardy hill"), which will take -10 below. As long as you have an enclosed porch for the plant. Locate it on the east or south window. Trying to grow it indoors without these conditions will lead to death. Water it no more than once a week inside. Allow the rain to water outdoors. Prune off all dead growth & move to next size pot. Use soil with good drainage.Prune from the top down 1/3 of each branch every 3 weeks until fall and then only as you need it. Feed with liquid fish fertilizer from home depot/lowe's every 3 weeks until fall & do not feed any more until early spring
