Question Hi, I hope that you are able to help. I've been researching herbal extracts and scientific studies online for a few months now, trying to identify the most effective antibacterial plant extracts against the bacteria klebsiella pneumonaie. There is research from 17 different countries linking the presence of klebsiella in the body to the onset and progression of Ankylosing Spondilitis, an extremely painful disease that my fiancé was diagnosed with a year and a half ago. Instead of modifying his diet and leaving a residual klebsiella population ready at any moment to multiply again, we are aiming for completely eliminating them with antibacterial plant extracts. I have pinned down a selection of herbs that are, according to the various papers and studies, extremely effective against specifically klebsiella, plus an additional herb used in Native American medicine that actually disables the bacteria's own immune system, called an MDR pump, thus making it a sitting duck for any antibacterials that might be around. I am trying to find out which of these herbs can be taken together, in what quantity, and for how long, and of course whether there are any side effects or contra-indications. This information is proving very hard to track down. Ideally the end result would be a super-mix of herbs that would be very potent against klebsiella. Regular antibacterials are not enough as this little so-and-so is very resistant to both many antibacterial extracts and to antibiotics, and it lives in the intestines. Hence the reason for incorporating the MDR pump-inhibitor plant extract with the antimicrobial plants that proved effective against klebsiella in the research papers. Here are the plants that were effective: aegele marmelos, salmalia malabarica, punica granatum, myristica fragrans, hollarrhena antidysenterica, and terminalia arjuna. The MDR Pump inhibitor plant is called berberis fremontii. Can you point me in the direction of any kind of resource or person to help in working out how and in what concentrations these plant extracts could be combined, and what dosage would be appropriate? (Unless you have that sort of information to hand yourself?!) Many thanks, Emma.
Answer Hi Emma,
This is a toughy. I'm not very familiar with formulas for Ayurveda Medicine. Here are a couple links that may lead to the correct answers.
