Herbs for Health - herbs to help kidney function

Expert: Dennis Leppanen - 5/11/2009

Question
my father is today 81 years old and is being told that his kidneys are nowdadays not functioning as they used to......I think that this is something somewhat normal for his age......does a herbal remedy exist that can assist his kidneys to function better?

Answer
Good morning Paul,

Yes, age can affect the kidneys. They may be damaged by exposure to certain drugs or toxins throughout his life.

A note here for all of us, drink plenty of purified water to keep our kidneys flushed of toxins.

HERBS

Cranberries contain substances that acidify the urine, destroy bacteria buildup and promote healing of the bladder. Drink at least 8 ounces of cranberry juice three times per day. Use only pure, unsweetened juice.

Dandelion root extract aids in excretion of the kidney's waste products and purifies the blood.

Marshmallow tea helps to cleanse the kidneys. Drink up to one quart per day.

SP-6 Cornsilk Blend from Solaray helps reduce water retention.

Consume a diet composed 75 per cent of raw foods. Eat, garlic, potatoes, asparagus, parsley, celery, cucumbers, papaya, and bananas. Watermelon and pumpkin seeds are also beneficial.

Watermelon should be eaten by itself so that it passes through the system quickly; if it stays too lone, toxins are formed. Also eat sprouts and most green vegetables.

Do not use salt. Also avoid beet greens, chocolate, eggs, fish, meat, spinach, rhubarb, Swiss chard, and tea.

Best wishes,
Dennis
