Question
Hi There,
I have just been learning on herbs and have a little difficulty knowing if certain herbs can be mixed together. I've read a few things about certain herbs mixed with another is "not good, or very bad" I saw your list of herbs on this site that help tone muscle but can you add or mix herbs that are appetite suppressants with stimulants or diuretics? Or is there a safe herbal mixture for suppressing and muscle toning. I already exercise and eat fairly well, I just want something to add a long. Thanks so much!

Answer
Hi Tabra,

There are building and tonifying herbs. You should be aware that each body reacts differently to the exact same dosage. Body weight, frailties, age, nervous tensions all play a role in determining proper dosages.

Tonification Therapy is simply the therapy used to permanently increase the strength of the body and organs. The tonic herbs generally give vitality and nutrients to a run down, or poorly nourished system. They can also be used to help a person achieve maximum health.

Tonic herbs are divided in to several groups.

1. The General Build Up. - This is a therapy that is made up of herbs as well as foods. Tonic herbs such as Alfalfa, Chickweed, and Nettles and are good to use for all body types. Follow with Ginseng for additional strengthening. Live enzymes from sprouts is an invaluable Tonification Therapy. Wheat grass, Barley Green, etc, as well as all raw organic fruits and vegetables. There are two foods to take a closer look at. Bee Pollen and Spirulina.

BEE POLLEN. It has been accredited with a vast array of healthful and medicinal properties from the slowing of the aging process to reduction of cancer, enhancing sexual vigor, ulcers, prostatitis, and especially allergies.

Tom McNabb, coach of the British atletic team experimented with Bee Pollen on five of his athletes. All noticed dramatic improvement. They trained harder and developed more muscle mass.

A key to the success of the Bee Pollen lies in its Synergistic action. It contains at least 18 amino acids and all eight essential ones. It also provides more than a dozen vitamins including B12. It has 28 minerals, 11 enzymes or coenzymes, 14 fatty acids, 11 carbohydrates and 25% protein by weight. When all the necessary nutrients are provided to the body at the same time, there is a synergistic effect and the body responds with greater power.
Bee Pollen is available in many forms. Raw pellets, prepared capsules, tablets and plain. I prefer plain, because I am ensured of not only the correct dosages, but I don't have to worry about the content of the fillers.

SPIRULINA - This is a 100% vegetable plankton. It contains 18 of the 22 amino acids. It is the most complete and potent source of natural nutrition currently known. It has the highest percentage of protein of any food, (60-70%) and is highly digestible.

Recognized as the most promising of all microalgae, spirulina is an immediate food source. It will produce twenty times as much protein as soybeans growing on an equal-sized area.

It contains concentrations of nutrients unlike any other single grain, herb, or plant. It contains gamma-linolenic acid (GLA), linolenic and arachidonic acids, vitamin B12, iron, a high level of protein (60 to 70 per cent), essential amino acids, the nucleic acids RNA and DNA, chlorophyll, and phycocyanin, a blue pigment found only in blue-green algae that has increased the survival rate of mice with liver cancer in lab experiments.

Spirulina is a naturally digestible food that aids in protecting the immune system, in cholesterol reduction, and in mineral absorption. I take it when fasting. It supplies the nutrients needed to cleanse and to heal, while curbing the appetite. It also helps to stabilize blood sugar levels.

Toning Individual Organs and systems.

Even though they do affect all parts of the body, some are more specific in toning ares.

BLOOD. - All organic raw fruits and vegetables. Spirulina, Bee Pollen, Wheat grass, Parsley juice, Alfalfa, Red clover, Sassafras, Ginseng.

FEMALE ORGANS. - Don Quai, Red Raspberry leaves, Ginseng, Damiana.

HEART. - Ginseng, Hawthorn Berries, Cayenne, (small doses), Bugleweed.

KIDNEY. - Burdock root, Parsley, Kava Kava.

LIVER. - Dandelion, Barberry, Oregon Grape Root, Goldenseal.

LUNG. - Fenugreek, Lung Wort, Pleurisy Root.

NERVES. - Skullcap, Valerian, Chamimile, Hops.

STOMACH. - Chamomile, Blessed Thistle, Mugwort, Ginseng.

A Tonic I use often.

3 parts Fo-ti
3 parts Alfalfa
3 parts Korean Ginseng

I  blend the powders and put them in "OO" capsules. I perks me up in 24 hours.

Give these a whirl.

Best wishes,
Dennis
