Question Is it safe for an 8 yr. old to drink a cup of regular orange pekoe tea a couple of times a week?My daughter loves it and I know that tea is a natural healthy drink in moderation. She has it with milk and sugar. When I was a child, my grandmother made me tea.Looking forward to your response.,

Answer Hello,
I have fond memories drinking hot Lipton Black or Orange pekoe tea in my grandmother's kitchen on sunday mornings. Your question brought warm smiles to my face, so thank you :) The tea should be fine for your daughter. I would however suggest limiting the amount of sugar she puts into her cup or mug. Too much sweet flavor can be hard on the digestive system. I would limit it to 1 cube or aprox 1/4tsp of a natural sugar (instead of white sugar) per cup. Or better yet, with some honey.
I usually give my children a cup of Chamommile tea with honey before bed on days where they are having a hard time settling down for the day. And if they are grumpy or sleepy in the morning before school, I give them a cup of green tea.
Hope that helps. And don't forget to have a cup of tea for your self. Rosemary and/or Raspberry leaf tea are wonderful teas for women--even as young as your daughter. She may even like the Raspberry leaf tea. But most importantly, enjoy your warm memories you are creating with your daughter.
Cheers,
Dr. C
