Herbs for Health - sore tongue

Question
I get painful teeth indentations on my tongue. Taking a B complex help get rid of this problem.  At first one B 50 tab a day helped, then three B50 tabs, now I seem to regularly need six B50 tabs a day. Will I hurt myself taking this much?

Answer
Hi Debbie,

Do you clench or grind your teeth? What has your doctor determined as the cause?

B vitamins are water-soluble, meaning that any excess intake is largely excreted in the urine. Supplements containing B vitamins are generally thought to be safe but still should not be taken in very large doses. Possible side effects include gout, high blood sugar levels, and skin problems. Overdoses can lead to heart and liver problems. Rarely, large doses of vitamin B3 (niacin) supplements can cause blurred vision, nausea, vomiting, and can make stomach ulcers worse.

Are you taking these with meals?

Have you tried any other treatments for your indentations?

I would be leery of taking six tabs daily. Most supplements suggest one-two as a daily requirement. The side effects are rare, but be aware of them.

Best wishes,
Dennis
