Herbs for Health - yogurt, probiotics, gluten

Question
Dennis
I began eating Activia yogurt three times aay a couple weeks ago,in order to reduce my distended belly (I am a 50 year old guy) and help with digestion. Apparently a study (probably funded by Activia) recomended Activa three times a dat for three months to reduce distension and even help with weight loss.
It seems to have helped,my belly has gone down a belt notch, and along with a switch away gluten-I dont eat much bread or flour but ALWAYS had toast in the morning. I am eating a gluten free bread now.
BTW I think I might have gluten intolerance, not full blown celiac, as I was tested for that on my last medical. I have most of the symptoms so I will go for a month low glycemic to see how I do.
Getting back to the yogurt, I cut down to one a day-just cant eat three.
Now I dont feel like ANY. Can I switch to probiotic capsules? There are a few high quality brands that are enteric coated so they open in your colon not your stomach. Will they work the same?
Also I like buttermilk-can I substitute that for the Activia?
OR maybe it wasnt the yogurt but eating less gluten? Either way the yogurt/probiotics are helpfull anyway right?
Thanks!

Answer
Hi Van,

Sure, switch to capsules. If you are uncomfortable with Activia, quit taking it. And, drink your buttermilk, it is good for your digestive tract.

Also, eat a diet high in fiber. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.

Include in the diet fresh papaya (which contains papain) and fresh pineapple (which contains bromelain). These are good sources of beneficial digestive enzymes.

It sounds like you're on the right track, Van.

Dennis
