Question I have several questions and comments about Highlander, so be warned.
Has the show explained how immortals knows an immortal is an immortal, before he or she died their first time, without the 'buzz'?
Why doesn't any immortal use any sort of head protection, like a helmet? Use a gun, or really any other long distance weapon, to immobilize, then chop off the head?
There seems to be alliances with several immortals, like Duncan and Richie, Amanda, Methos, so why don't they use their years of experience to create a martial arts style for swords, to get better at sword fighting, or create a good guy immortal guild, be like the immortal version of the Watchers?
I would think with some of these immortals that have lived thousands of years, fighting with swords, that at least one of them would study on how create a better sword, like one made with titanium, or study their 'buzz' to see if they could 'shut it off'', so no other immortal can find him or her.
Answer I'll try to answer all the questions.
The show has not explained how the immortal sense works, much less how they can tell if you are one before your first death.
We are sure that some immortals did do that very thing, but those with "honor" did not. Helmets would need to provide protection for the neck area and are just too bulky and obvious to carry around in public.
Alliances for the most part are all short term, since in the end "there can be only one". It would be difficult to kill one of your friends if they had made it to the final few.
Styles were not needed because of the "quickning" and thus gained the skill of the deceased immortal. This is why Duncan had to kill Conner.
Better swords do not make better sword-fighters. The Katana is among the best made sword in the world. The 'buzz' as you call it is something that would be hard to study, since no immortal has the necessary lab or scientists that can keep such a secret. If the general public were to know of immortals, there would be many repercussions to complicate an immortals life. They have enough problems just keeping their head on!
