Abouthlndr Expertise I can answer questions about Highlander: The Series' episodes, cast, characters, time lines, etc. As well as direct you to informative web sites, sites where other fans hang out and fun sites like fan-fiction sites, role playing game sites, etc. I don't have much knowledge of the Highlander movies but I have access to a wealth of information through my online sources. I also cannot and will not answer any questions regarding the personal lives of the actors.
Experience I have been an obsessed fan of the series since it first aired on television. I own every episode from all 6 seasons. I belong to several fan based groups on the Internet, participate in one email style, one forum style and one live action style Highlander role playing game as well as "own" (moderator/director) a live action style RPG of my own. I also dabble in writing fan-fiction stories based on the series.
Education/Credentials I am a high school graduate and graduated from a private vocational school as a certified Paramedic.
Understandably there was a huge interest by fans in a new Methos Tv series, but the producers chose instead a female immortal, which was, ultimately, Amanda - and that sequel understandably flopped as it annoyed all segments of the Highlander fan-base. What was never mentioned was the real reason the producers deliberately avoided choosing Methos/Wingfield for a sequel. What was the real reason?

Answer For one thing....at the time that spin offs were being discussed the most popular TV shows featured strong female characters (Xena, etc.). So the producers and the financial backers demanded that if there was a spin off it must have a female lead. That's why in the last season the episodes focused on more female characters (Alex Raven, Reagan Cole, Kyra, Ceirdwyn and Katherine. They were looking for their female lead. Personally I think if they had gone with Katherine and Nick (Two of Hearts) they spin off might have done better. Don't get me wrong....I adore Amanda but there just wasn't any chemistry between her and her leading man. Not like the chemistry between Katherine and Nick.
Secondly....it had been established in the series that Methos would rather hide under the guise of being a Watcher in order to avoid conflict and that doesn't exactly make a strong anchor for a series. I mean....it would get really boring really quick if each episode was about what method he used to run away from another Immortal.....no matter how much he makes certain people swoon.
Thirdly Peter Wingfield wasn't really interested in doing Highlander series in which he was the main character at the time. He wanted to pursue other venues (hence his guest rolls in Star Gate SG1, Smallville, Queen of Swords, Dolby City and Sanctuary....not to mention the films he did right afterward.).
They did, however, make an animated series...The Methos Chronicles, in which Peter did the voice of Methos. But it was short lived and not very popular.
If there were more reasons than the ones I just stated I don't know about them so I hope this answers your question. The Highlander creators do monitor the boards and will answer questions or get involved in discussions from time to time.
