QuestionMy husband and I have watched the movies and the television series and we still can not figure out why McLeod was chosen to be immortal in the first place....I hope you can help me out...Thanks
It is probably the easiest thing in the world to figure out but please humor me.
AnswerHi Rachel. I'm assuming you're asking where immortals come from in general (In other words, how did MacLeod become immortal)? Basically, they've never told us the 'why and how' of how immortals exist. They attempted to in the second movie (Aliens from the Planet Zeist), but the reaction to that was so bad that even the producers deny that movie exists (They actually came out with a 'directors cut' version that removed any mention of Zeist *G*). Since then, the origin of immortals has been a mystery to everyone... fans and immortals alike. Basically, the series tells us that all immortals are foundlings, they cannot have cannot have children of their own, and their immortality can be felt by other immortals even before they die their first death. Other than that, we don't know where they come from, who their parents are and why they are immortal in the first place. In Highlander: Raven, they brought up the fact that immortals have to die a violent death to trigger their immortality, but this goes against earlier canon established in Highlander: The Series, so many fans choose to ignore that *G*
So, long answer short, Mac was found in the woods as a baby and raised by his adopted family. No one knows where he came from or why he was the way he was (Other than being a 'demon') or why he was 'chosen'. Hope this clarifies things, even if there isn't an actual answer for your question :-)
