About Chris Johnson
Expertise I can answer most questions on equipment for outdoor activities such as walking, mountain biking, rock climbing and paragliding, in the UK. I`ve limited watersports experience so you`d be better off asking someone else these questions. Questions about the above activities themselves as well as about the equipment will also be answered as I`ve got several contacts who can pass on information. I`m a keen walker/mountainbiker/rock climber/paraglider pilot in the UK. I`ve been doing outdoor sports for about 15 years including trips to the French Alps and Trekking in the Nepalese and the Indian Himalayas. I`ve been buying and making outdoor clothing and equipment for about the same amount of time.
Experience Waking up at the foot of Annapurna South is something I won't forget. I would say that my first paraglider flight was unforgettable but every flight since seems to have been more unforgettable.

Question Hello Chris,
My question for you is to pick your brain abput some of the trails in the French Alps "close to Nice". I am currently onboard a ship heading into Nice. I have never been here before and am looking forward to a summer in Europe. I work on a private yacht and plan on spending my free time with my boots on my feet and hitting the trails as much as possible. I will be allowed 2 to 4 days off at a time and am looking for advice on where to go. I have all my gear with me to go solo for as long as I have food. I will be leaving Nice and due to the fact that my days are numbered I would like to hit the Alps closer than further away.
A little bit about me. I am 30 and am good shape. I have been backpacking for the last 14 years. Taking at least one to two 7-10 day trips through out America. Plus I lived and worked in Vail, CO as a guide and tracked animals for the Forest Service. So needless to say I am not a rookie in this game but know all to well to humbly ask for first hand knowledge and to always respect Mother Nature and her power. If you could give any insight on where to go I would greatly appreciate your advice. I am looking for solitude, as few humans as possible! To sit by a fire with my book and thoughts and appreciate the beauty and peace.... and not to wake up to an alarm clock!
Thank you for your time Chris,
Scott Carlson

As you'll probably not have any maps your best bet is to get yourself down to the local tourist office as soon as possible and see what they suggest and pick up the maps at the same time. The maps I've got have times marked on each route so there should be no problems in quickly assessing how far you can get in the time you have. I've not hiked in this area but I don't think there is the possibility of using mountain huts in this area as I don't think its high enough so there are very few so you'll be looking at nights under canvas or local hostels if you can "put up with the people". The Office de Tourisme can help you in this too with locations and availability.
Sorry I can't be of more help. My experience with the tourist offices has always been excellent and would recommend this as a first stop to anyone.
Hope you have a great time getting your land legs back!
Chris
