Hindus/samadhi Vs enlightenment
QUESTION: sir, as you have attained goal of joyfull living, then what is difference between other enlightned people like eckhart tolle, buddha, ramana maharshi, nisargdatta maharaj, osho and so on
ANSWER: Dear Ajay,
Everyone of them listed by you are enlightened people. There is absolutely no difference between them WITH RESPECT TO THEIR KNOWLEDGE. All of them know who they are. There cannot be any gradation and variation with respect to self-knowledge. Either you know who you are OR you do not. There is nothing in between.
Everyone of them are different WITH RESPECT TO THEIR PERSONALITY. People are different. (In fact EVERYTHING in the creation is different. Even a grain of sand is unique and it is not possible to find another one identical to it). Therefore, there is no wonder that the minds of these people are very different. While Ramana Maharishi lived like a poor man, OSHO lived like a king.
The differences should not matter to us because we are not interested in imitating them. We are interested only in their knowledge and there is no difference in it.

QUESTION: sir, i read that enlightenment means "destruction of mind"
then how these masters can have different minds?
ANSWER: Dear Ajay,
You got it wrong. Enlightenment has nothing to do with destruction of mind. Possibly, you have read about SAMADHI (the eighth step of Ashtanga Yoga by Patanjali)and thought it is enlightenment. It is not. Therefore, all these masters do have mind and that too fully alert and active mind.
Assuming that enlightenment means 'destruction of mind', why do you want enlightenment?

QUESTION: then, sir what is the difference between "samadhi"(eighth step in patanjali yoga system) and enlightenment?
and is it necessary to reach upto samadhi to get enlightenment?
Both mean the same. Normally people skip the first six steps of Ashtanga Yoga and start from the seventh step (Meditation) and then try to reach Samadhi. This is wrong. If one attains Samadhi in such a way it is not enlightenment. If one goes through all the preceding seven steps in order and systematically progress under the guidance of a teacher, and then attain Samadhi, it is same as Enlightenment.
If you attain Samadhi in the wrong way (doing step 7 and 8 only) then you will end up in destruction of mind for a brief period of time.
If you attain Samadhi in the right way COMPLETING first 6 steps FULLY before attempting 7th and 8th step) you will live life joyfully all the time till death.
Wrong Samadhi is not required for attaining right samadhi.
