Do you feel the Sacred thread ceremony should be also applicable for girls in future ?.

I Feel this religious ceremony should be also applicable for girls.

Awaiting your reply,

Thanks & Regards,
Prashant S Akerkar

Answer
Dear Prashant,

Namaskar.

The sacred thread was given to both boys and girls in the Early Vedic period. it was called Maunji bandhana or the tying of the Munja grass which was woven into a thread. Over time, in case of girls the sacred thread got converted into a thread worn around the waist which is a custom even today in many parts of India. Of course the ceremony and the consequent study of scriptures has been stopped for girls.

Since it was a custom which was in vogue earlier, I think it should be started again.

With best wishes,

Hindus
