Question
Respected Sir,

When we reflect on ideas such as " I am not this  Body" or " I am Consciousness" or " I forgive all those who  have hurt me" etc who  is that "I" that thinks so?Is it the Mind on behalf of the Atman?

Question 2  It is said that  Emotion is a set of thoughts.
But  when we grieve for others the emotion is
instantaneous i.e. without the building of thoughts.

Kindly clarify  me on the correct interpretation on the above.

Thanking you,
T R Vasudevan

Answer
Dear Vasudevanji,

Namaskar.

The 'I' that thinks such thoughts is the Atman conditioned by the ego brought about by ignorance.

When you think something, the thought leaves an impression on your mind, and accumulated impressions determine your character and also your emotions. However, you can have emotions just as first-time thoughts. So, there can be first-time emotions and also emotions based on previous experience.

With best wishes,

Hindus
