Hindus/karma yoga

what is the prerequisite for starting karma yoga and goal of karma yoga?
am confused that  prerequisite and goal of karma is same i.e to understand that there is no happiness in the world .please correct this.

Dear Aaryan,

In general, people are attracted to money. It is impossible for them to attempt karma yoga. However, after earning money for a while and after achieving some success in life, people will realize that money is not that important in life. At this juncture, they are eligible to start Karma Yoga. By practicing Karma Yoga for a length of time, they will understand that there is no happiness in the world at all. Then they are eligible for Gnana Yoga which will give them the highest knowledge on the source of happiness.

Therefore, your question is valid. Both prerequisite and goal of karma yoga is same at the surface level. However, there is a subtle difference. While starting Karma Yoga, people do not have strong conviction that there is no happiness in the world. They just suspect that money will not help them to gain ever lasting happiness. Once they complete Karma Yoga they gain complete conviction that there is no happiness in the world.

In other words, as long as people think they can achieve what they want by earning money they cannot commence Karma Yoga.

Thanks for asking this important question. Will be glad to offer more clarifications, if required.

Best wishes,
