Question
Regards,
Avdpn.

Answer
Dear Avudaiappan,

we are continuously engaged in Karma. And we are bound to reap the results of our Karma. This being the case how it is ever going to be possible to get liberation. This is your question. Let me answer it now.

The theory of karma is revealed in Vedas. It is clearly stated that the moment one realizes the truth that I AM BRAHMAN then he is fully liberated from the bindings of Karma. Therefore, you do not have to worry whether it is possible to get liberation.

You need to do two things. Do good karma and avoid bad karma. This is important because until you get liberation you need to ensure that your life is good. (Without good karma you will not even get a chance to find a guru for attaining liberation). Secondly, strive to get liberation by realising I AM BRAHMAN here and now without bothering about the accumulated Karma. You need to make efforts on both these simultaneously although it may appear to that it is not possible. Thinking that it is not possible to get liberation while doing Karma, is part of the ignorance.

Everyone who has some idea about the revelation in Vedas know that the world is an illusion and the only truth is Brahman. Everyone knows I am Brahman. But this knowing is not realisation.

It is like saying I know Taj Mahal without ever visiting Agra. One has to have direct knowledge to gain realisation. It is not enough to understand that the Vedas declare 'You are Brahman'. It is essential to realise this truth for oneself. Once this realisation happens ALL THE QUESTIONS will disappear. What will happen to the effect of Karma will no longer a meaningful question after this realisation.

To gain realisation one has to systematically and continuously study Vedanta under the guidance of a live teacher for a length of time.

Thanks for asking this question. Sorry for not responding in Tamil. Please feel free to ask as many questions as you want.

Best wishes,
