Question I am a teacher of 4 and 5 year olds and we are learning about Hinduism. We would like to know why there are so many different Hindu gods.
Answer hi kirsty,
glad u take intrest in hindu religion.Well the truth is that there is only one and only one super power that controls all the things in the universe Whom we call God.
Hindu religion being one of the oldest religion took into account the capability of normal people.means....if i tell someone that Bill gates makes all the softwares and operating systems by himself what would everyone say......?they would rather say i am insane.
To attain ultimate truth and understand what really God is...some preparation and ground work is needed for our brain.
Nature is one of the things God gave us...nature looks after us....thats why it is something we can thank and visualise. So they thought of creating a diety by name "nisarg deva",Hindu religion has over a million such Deties which are nothing but branches of the Almighty.
Such an arrangement was made because we can then start by worshiping these and then move ahead to understand the almighty.
You are a school teacher so u might understand how it is to tell children about God.What if someone asks show mw God.We show them Idols, may created from stone and mud and then tell children that this deity takes care of the rainfall and the other takes care of fire and so on ...it becomes easy for children to keep faith in The Almighty.
When one reaches maturity then we can tell him that God is just a Power a source of energy it cannot be seen nor heard nor it can be touched....we can onlly feel Him ,see his work and his wondors.
All this system was incorporated because the ultimate aim of hindu religion is to attain God Himself.u cannot do it unless u learn to visualise him and understand is power.
You can ask more questions if u r not satisfied i need to write more to convince u may be!!!
