I can answer questions about most skate problems and explain most things about skating and how to perform things as in hockey stop, snowplow stop, cross overs etc. I cannot guarantee I will be able to answer ALL of your questions but I will definitely try my hardest on all of your questions. Just try me and I will do my best to answer your all your questions as well as I can.

I have been skating for a while now and skate every chance i get. I also play hockey too, and can answer most skating problems regarding hockey and also can answer some hockey questions.

Question
My son 8 year old and has been skating since he was 3. He has now played 1 year of competitive hockey (at least 4 hours a week). He plays Centre and is fast and excellent with his edges. He's on the shorter side and fine-boned  (4ft 2", 57 lbs). He wore an Easton Synergy 800 youth, size 12 skate last season (while wearing a size 1 running shoe). They were getting tight at the very end of the season so we did have them stretched once.  Do you have any advice as to buying skates eg.  brand/design for his age, body type, position and ability/level of play? Advice as to skate sharpening  (3/8"  vs  7/16") would be of interest as well.
Thanks so much!  Lynda

Answer
Hi,
I don't recommend switching skate brands as doing so can be too awkward. This doesn't happen for everyone, but for most people once they've gotten used to a certain brand skate, switching can feel weird and be too different for them which can mess them up a bit. If he's comfortable with easton synergy's, I'd go for another pair of synergy's.
As for skate sharpening, I'd recommend you try both and see which feels more comfortable for him. Lot's of people like 3/8. When he get's bigger though he'll probably want to change to somewhere around 3/4.
Hope this helps
