In the TV series, Schultz had a U.S. Krag, not a Norwegian one.  I don't know why, but assume the prop people goofed.  

Could it have been that John Banner, an anti-Nazi Austrian, did not want to carry a German rifle, even though the other "German soldiers" had the standard K98k rifle?  

I would appreciate any info you can provide on a question that has been bugging me for some time.  Thank you.

Great question!

I'm sorry but I have never read anything about the rifle that Schultz carried.

Unfortunately - John died in 1973.

I'll check with another source to see if she has read of the reason why.
