Home Business - home based business

Expert: Steele V. Propp - 7/6/2004

Question
dear expert,

i've come across a lot of home business offers but almost 99% seem to be a scam. i have almost given up finding which is best for me and my wife who needs additional income to sustain our family.

i would be interested with any honest to goodness home based job that would give money for our effort. something like "data entry" or "mystery shopper" or answering survey questions, etc.

being an expert in this field, would you have one that you would recommend? I need your expert opinion and would appreciate it very much.

best regards,

Answer
Unfortunately you are right in that most home business offers are at least partially bogus.  You would usually be better off finding a part time job for extra income.

Most legit home businesses involve marketing some kind of product.  In other words, selling something.  A product or a service.

If that would be something to consider find something that is not already readily available through local retail. Health products are one to stay away from in my opinion, too much competition from strip malls to major stores.

Services have become quite big, but not alot out there I would personally recommend.  I, myself, have had good luck with a service called PrePaid Legal.  It's basically a group legal plan.  If interested visit this information site.

But again this involves selling.

Mystery shoppers can make some money, not tons, so this is something I can recommend.  Many of the service providers will let you sign up for free so I would explore this avenue before signing up for a paid service. Just plug into one of the search engines and start exploring the words "mystery shopper".  You'll get lots of leads and places to sign up.

Most other legit home businesses do have upfront costs.  Explore them carefully.  And don't be afraid to think about starting your own business.  Look at your interests and see if there is a way to incorporate one into a business.

There is all kinds of information on the internet and at the local library.  But do your homework.

And don't be afraid to bounce ideas off me.  I am happy to help.
