Home Furnishings/Furniture - Foam Couch Replacment

Expert: Duane Collie - 10/14/2009

Question
One of my puppy's tore up the inside of the couch cushion. I wanted to know where I could purchase a new piece of foam to replace it. Do home improvement stores carry them such as Lowe's or Home Depot? Please let me know asap...

Answer
Most modern upholstery pieces have engineered cushion cores that are considerably more complex than ordinary foam.  I don't have enough details on your sofa to know how old it is, or the brand, or what you paid for it.  However, if its reasonably new and mid-grade or higher, you should contact the manufacturer or dealer you purchased it from and obtain the correct replacement core. If you just put a piece of foam inside the casing, that seat will not have the same feel as the others on your sofa.  If you do elect to go that route, stop by a local re-upholsterer and have him outfit you with the correct density foam at the very least.  Good luck
