About Jahann and Sons Persian Rugs
Expertise
I can answer questions and give advice on the purchasing of Oriental carpets and the care of said carpets. I am more than happy to view photos and give approximate appraisals (I cannot be completely accurate with just a photo) via email on carpets that you have or would like to buy. I can also help with decorating decisions where rugs are concerned, and because I do have a store, I can help find you something if you`re having trouble finding it yourself.

Experience
My family has had a Persian carpet store in the Washington, DC metropolitan area for nearly 30 years (www.jahannandsons.com). I grew up with rugs.

Home Furnishings/Furniture - dying or coloring a small wool carpet

Expert: Jahann and Sons Persian Rugs - 10/6/2009

Question
I have a wool black small carpet 7' X 7' with white designs on it.  I would like to color the white areas so it appears all black or at least dark grey in the white areas.  How do I do this?
I would appreciate any suggestions!

Answer
Hi Donna,

It you're sure that the rug you have is wool, then I would buy some dye, and dye it!  Here is a good brand to use: http://www.ritdye.com.  You can mix the dye solution (the powdered dye with water), and use an old toothbrush to apply it.  Let it dry for a few days, and then the rug will be good to go.  It may take a few coats, and you may want to do a test area first, but I don't think you'll have a big problem.  Also, if you do run into any issues, since your goal is an all-black rug, you will be able to cover up any mistakes that occur as you go along.  Let me know how it turns out!

Best of luck,
Katie
