Question
Dave,

I don't know if you can help me but my husband and I are interested in purchasing a distressed home to renovate/repair because it has always been a dream of ours. The problem is, I don't even know where to start. I've tried looking online but I can't really find anything to help me. Do you have any recommendations?

Answer
This is NOT a project to take on lightly.  Renovations can take all your time and more money than expected.   Baths and Kitchens are the largest and most needed remodels.  Total baths...$6000.  Total kitches...$5000 to $20000.  Most rooms need paint and trimout.  New carpet or flooring...$ .50 to 5.00 per foot.  Curb appea it how it sells.  Can you afford landscapes and general roof maintenance.  It adds up fast.
