Expert: Bill Hutson Date: 1/25/2008 Subject: grab bar
Question I have to install a grab bar for my father in-law to use to help him get up from the toilet.
Is it best to install it at an angle, horizontal or vertical?
He also weighs about 240lbs.
Answer Dave,
These are usually installed at an angle, BUT, if the person who will use it is available, I like to ask what would be best for their individual needs.
Make sure your screws go into studs, if not use a suitable anchoring system rated for 1.5 times his weight.
