Subject: Weep holes weeping
Question Greetings from a fellow AllExperts Expert (SQL Databases) and "Dave".
In the past 2.5 years, we've had 2 or 3 really bad storms which basically blew heavy rains nearly directly at the front of our house. Part of the front is a brick section and where that brick meets the foundation there are weep holes. (That's what I was told...they're vertical gaps of missing mortar between every 6th or so brick).
During those really severe storms, water gets into the basement. I'm SURE that weep holes aren't designed to allow water in, even during very high-wind storms, but I have no idea that might be the problem nor how to address it.
Suggestions?
Thanks!
-Dave
Answer There is supposed to be flashing...both paper and metal behind those weep holes. Unless the metal has rotten out, and the paper has perferated....water should not be going down past the weep holes. I would definitly consider a "leak" well above the weeps...say 6' or so. A bad window top seal....wall to roof transition damage...something up far enough to get under the paper.
