Question
Hi, I have an corrugated iron room at the back of my house.Im looking for ways to soundproofing it DIY. I already got hold of some egg crates and OSB-boards too place infront of the egg crates, after putting it againts the iron with the help of some wood panels im just gonna hit straight horizontally. But im doubting its gonna work proper. I get the feeling this isn't be enough too cancel out the noise. Im aware of the quistion too be very tricky. I've tried the web..there's no links that can help me out.
Anyone with some nice suggestions pls dont hesitate to send me an reply.
Thanks in adavance
Milton

Answer
Milton,

Resiliant channels are made for this application.  They can be fastened to the corrugated metal then the OSB can be fastened to the channels.  The resiliant channels create a break so sound is not transmitted to the OSB.  You can also add sound insulation batts between the channels increasing  the sound proofing even more.  If you can't find sound insulation batts regular batt insulation will offer some sound reduction but not a lot.

If these products are not available you can build a frame wall but don't attach it to the metal wall; be sure that there is a space between the metal and the frame wall (1/2 inch, 1.27mm).  The sound waves cannot bridge the gap.  Good luck.
