Question I recently separated a room into two using 2 X 3 for a frame ant sheetrock for the walls on both sides. I can hear all the conversations from the next room and would like to reduce the noise.
I considered cutting a small (3" wide) strip on the top of the wall and pulling bat insulation through to the floor. Will this work? is there a simpler, more economic way to soundproof?
Answer David,
That will reduce the noise to some extent and is probably your quickest cheapest way out at this point.
However, if you don't mind stripping the drywall off one side of your wall, you can make the bottom and top plates wider, (i use 2x8 for these) then install two rows of studs, one facing each room, but, make sure the studs are not directly across from one another, offset them by half, then weave roll insulation between the studs and hang your drywall as usual.
This is the best DIY low expense sound-proofing system.
