Question We had a bathtub installed and now when we take a shower, the bathtub squeaks when we move in the shower. How can I get this to stop?
Answer Carrie,
Call the installer and tell them to come back and install it right.
2 things may be happening;
1. the tub sits on either some wood supports or a concrete bed.
the wood will squeak if not installed properly, that's why I like to use the concrete bed, it gives total support and never squeaks.
2. the tub is screwed to the wall through a lip at the top.
I always fill the tub before I screw into the lip, that way the tub has weight in it will you screw it to the wall, otherwise, the tub will sag a little when you get in or fill it up and you'll have a squeak.
Either way, I would revert back to my opening comment.
This tub was not installed properly.
Carrie,
Don't frown, this is how we all learned.
if it's a tub and not a surround, you can try just removing the screws in the lip, then fill it with water and replace the screws, but, use some just a little longer this time so they'll bite better, also, you'll want the tub full when you caulk it too.
