Question I have purchased a sliding screen door from Home Depot a
couple of months ago, and have had trouble installing it. I
can get it on the outside tracks; however when I try to
slide the screen, it hits the stationary glass on the other
side and comes off the tracks. I asked my friend to take a
look at it. He is saying that it might need a special (thin)
sliding screen and that I should contact the manufacturer of
the sliding door itself (and I don't see the name anywhere).
Before I return this screen door, I though I'd check to see
if there might be another solution.
Thanks,
Jason
Answer Hi Jason,
Your friend may be correct. You'll have to measure the distance between the stationary door and the track for the screen door. Doubling that distance will give your the thickness of the screen door required. You may have purchased a 7/16" door and perhaps you need a 5/16" door. With this measurement, you'll be able to call around and find out who makes that type of screen door. A company called C.R. Laurence has a multitude of screen doors available for retrofitting and I'm sure you may be able to find one there. Otherwise, have a local glass/window company come out and do the job for you.
