Question Dear Expert,
I am planning a bathroom remodeling 9not DIY) involving replacing a bath tub and a shower (32”X48”). I am leaning towards an acrylic shower kit, sometimes also called “solid surface”. Obviously, I’ll talk to the contractor and a couple dealers, but I’d like to get an in-biased opinion.
Doing online research, I found three shower manufacturers: Swanson, Transolid and Maax. Looks like they have similar glue-in showers (three walls and a base, plus accessories) in a variety of colors and textures. Swanson offers matching vanity tops, which is a plus. Maax offers glass shower doors (I can buy a door from anybody, though).
Do you have preferences as far as quality, installation, comparable price, service, etc.? A negative experience would also help in choosing.
Thank you for the help.
Answer Alex,
Actually, I installed two of those in the last house I built for myself.
I cannot remember the makes or models, but, I was quite pleased with both. I got them from Menards.
One was an inexpensive model for the common bath and one was a more higher end model for the master bath.
What I was surprised about, was the cheaper one held up over time just as good as the more costly one.
A side note: they come in a complete kit and they are very easy to install with clear and concise directions. A very good DIY project for the beginner. Might save you some money.
