Home Improvement--General/root cellar repair.

We have a root cellar in the hillside behind our home. It's made of local stone cut into rough square with a dome ceiling. A couple of the blocks from the ceiling have fallen out and I fear more are to follow. The blocks are like brown stone with loose fill dirt on top a few feet thick. Is there anyway to shore this up/or repair where I don't have to dig the whole thing out, so that we can still use it for storage ?

Thank You,

Since there is a danger of a cave in here, I would like to see you hire either a stone mason or a qualified handyman with stone experience to shore this up.

It can be braced from inside while the stone is replaced and mortared into place, but, those are keystones so, they will nee to be placed so they "lock" into position and support each other.
