Home Improvement--General/Gap between wall and ceiling

Hello hopefully you can help. What would cause a gap between the top of the wall that meets the ceiling? It's just come up over the last month and I'm not sure why it's about an inch thick and slightly curved. Thanks

Your best answer will come from inspecting the ceiling joist (or roof truss) from the attic and floor from the crawl space - assuming you have these.

For the attic, I'm guessing you are referring to an interior wall perpendicular to the framing and that you are looking for warping of a ceiling joist or a break in a roof truss.

The other option is the floor and/or wall is sinking due to deterioration of framing from water and/or insects. Or the floor and wall are sinking due to some failure of the foundation.

For life safety reasons it is important to determine if there is a structural failure in progress so you do not get caught by a collapse.
