Home Improvement--General - bathroom remodeling

Expert: Michigan man - 4/30/2004

Question
I am getting estimates on remodeling my bathroom.  My question is why would a contractor replace the existing dry wall/sheet rock so he could tile the walls?  It seems to me that removing the wallpaper/sanitist (I'm not sure what is on the walls now), spackle and sand if necessary then tile.  Is there something I'm not seeing?

Answer
for the tile man to guarantee his tile, they usually want cement board.there could be a bonding of tile problem with the drywall brd,see what board he will use,i wouldnt put any tile in my shower with out durock board,it will take moisture, the drywall wont, jim
