Home Improvement--General - board and batten siding

Expert: Dave Coil - 10/26/2004

Question
hi dave

i have a pretty good understanding of the applications/materials available as far as board and batten siding (b&b) goes these days.

my questions are these: i have alumimium siding. do i remove the old or side over the aluminum? how do you treat inside and outside corners, as well as up at the soffit and down at the bottom, where the parging begins, or around windows/doors.

hope i am making myself understood. any questions, feel free to ask.

am i safe to believe what i have read: this is a two three person job, over one or two weekends? (providing i have very handy people?)

many thanks in advance!

ann

PS. terrific website! been here many times with my garden issues.

Answer
You will need to remove the aluminum siding to give a solid wall to fasten to.  It could take a whole week, with 3 good men and a small learning curve.   There is a metal corner for most applications.  It can be done with wood as well.  A good carpenter can adapt to the situations that exist, especially with a convergence of corners.
