Question
I am researching different TV shows, including Home Improvement, with some classmates for a project.  Our group data from 10 episodes show that the mother disciplined the children nine times while Tim disciplined the childern 6 times.  Do you think this is an accurate ratio based on your knowledge of all the episodes?  By the way does the mom have a job?

Answer
IMHO, I don't believe that ratio is correct.  From all the episodes I've ever seen, just about all of them, I've noticed both Tim and Jill collaborate on the same disciplinary action rather than Tim yelling and then Jill yelling at a different time.  There have been circumstances otherwise, for instance, the episode where Tim puts in an intercom system that goes up to Randy's room and Tim hears Randy talking not so nicely about him.  Jill only suggests what Tim should do while Tim actually does the action.  Does the Mom have a job?  In some episodes she does, and in some not.  In the beginning, no.  Some episodes later, she works for a magazine and is very pleased to have a "security card", later on she becomes a housewife, I believe, and then in the very later episodes, she goes to school.  I hope that answers your questions.  If you need futher information, please don't hesitate to contact me again either here or by email: jww@jwcomp.com  If you are pleased with my response, feel free to leave feedback in that section of the web site.  Thanks.
