About Larry A. Staffen
Expertise
I worked in Hollywood Ca. for 17 years as a recording engineer/musician. My forte is in analog recording (such as tape editing, bias, record/repro alignment, multi-track, mixing, so much more). Home Recording - Drum recording.

Expert: Larry A. Staffen - 6/17/2009

Question
Hello. I'm a drummer and i'm recently getting into recording drum tracks. Though, my knowledge about that is pretty limited. What I know is I would need a mixer, and drum microphones. The thing i'm confused about is how do I set up the mixer to my computer? Or are there USB compatable mixers? If there is, what program do you know of that will recognize the mixer? If there is no such thing as a USB mixer, what other options are there for me? And if you have time, what's the difference between a multi-track recorder and a analog mixer?

Answer
Hi Jacob - Sorry for the delay, as mt computer was down.  Too much o explain,,, chec out "Modern Recording Techniques" by Robert Rubstein and Miles Huber.  Books are available used at Amazon.com

Lar

Hi Jacob - My computer was down.  Sorry, but...USB or no USB port won't make a difference in your computer since there isn't more than 2 busses in your sound card (left and right only).  You need several busses (a minimum of 4 for the drums)plus several more for guitar, bass and keys.  How about vocals?  You need a multitrack machine BETWEEN the mixer and the computer.  USB ports are  not the answer to audio recording, but a sales pitch for those who know nothing else about recording.  BTW still buy  the book and learn something.
it'ss valuable in this art.

Thans so much for your feedback rating!
