Question
If I wanted to set up a home recording studio to record mainly acoustic/singer songwriters what equipment would you recommend?  The only instruments I will be recording at first will be the acoustic guitar and vocal.  In particular I am looking for the type of computer, mixing board and microphones etc.

Answer
Hey Matt, as far as computers go, I tell everyone who asks me to go Mac. If you're certain that you only want to do smaller mixes, you can get yourself a laptop, if you think you might want to expand down the road, go for a G5. They don't have to be new, you can get a dual 1.8 for under a grand just about anywhere nowadays, so if budget is an issue, you can always go that route. As far as interfaces go, I've always really like MOTU. The interfaces they have now are great for live & studio. Check it out:

Then get yourself a copy Logic Pro, a couple of mics & you're all good to go. for mics, I'd suggest a couple of AKG C214's. Hope that helps, if you need anything else, just drop me a line.
Peace - J.
