Home Recording - Sampling Cd's onto Alesis SR-16

Expert: Jason Fryer - 9/20/2009

Question
Hello Jason.   I just bought a Alesis SR-16.  It says right on it that it is a Stereo sampler.  In the manual it says that your can dump info off a tape onto the Alesis. I have CD table tops connected to a dj mixer, which is connected to a mixing console.  I do not have a tape player.  I tried connected the out of my console to the tape in/out of the Alesis to see if I can dump my cd's on the Alesis.  My question is, is there anyway I can sample my cd's onto the Alesis SR-16.  I hope I can, and I hope you have the answer.  Thank you and hope to hear from you soon.  Lloyd

Answer
Hi Lloyd, from what I've seen the SR-16 is a drum machine & not a sampler, so I don't know if it can actually sample at all. Sorry I can't help you further, but I think you have the wrong tool for the job. If you want to sample from your tables, just get a 2 or 4 channel audio interface & record into a computer on whatever software you're most familiar with. Hope that helps, if you need anything else, just drop me a line.
Peace - J.
