Home Recording/audacity

Using Audacity 1.3.12,(on my Mac) I took an MP3 file, deleted some room noise at the beginning of the track, and I exported the edited file at 128 KBS into a new MP3 file. The new MP3 file has some sound distortion, a slight fuzziness. It sounds worse than the original, and I did no editing on the sound quality. All I did was delete a portion of the track that had room noise. Any idea why the new file has distortion? Thanks.

Hey David, sorry bro. Without actually seeing what went down, there's just no way for me to tell. Could be a conversion issue, a bit depth issue,  sample rate mis-match... There's just no way for me to know. It's usually best to work on .wav or .aiff files, make a copy of the original & then work on the copy, then convert to mp3 after. Hope that helps man, if you need anything else, just drop me a line.
Peace - J.

I have been working in studios for over 20 years both as a recurring artist playing on my own recordings & as a session musician, engineer & producer. I run a Mac based studio from my home, use mostly Logic or Garageband. I'll use Garageband for writing & Pre-Prod & move the project over to Logic afterwards. I also have experience using Pro Tools, Digital Performer, Ableton Live & many others. My preferences are Logic & Pro Tools & as such my area of expertise is focussed in these two apps. I'm also an IT guy, sysadmin & electronics technician so can help with technical questions relating to studio operation & maintenance.
