Please no car audio, I have no experience in that field. Keeping it to 'small' room systems would be a plus (IE no stadium questions...if you have to ask, don't do them).
Experience I have been in the custom integration industry for 15 years engineering various types of audio systems such as home theater, AV conferencing, and live reinforcement.
Education/Credentials Audio Engineering degree as well as the school of hard knocks. Out of college started as an installation technician and have worked my way up to lead engineer and lead programmer for a leading integration company in Minnesota, real world experience could be my middle name.
Expert: Matt Rasmussen Date: 7/5/2008 Subject: DirecTV losing sound and picture when treadmill is on
Question This is odd and i cannot seem to find an answer anywhere. I have a DirecTV system in a multidwelling unit (one satellite dish for the whole building). The receiver in my living room is HD and the one in my bedroom is standard. The oddest thing happens whenever i try to work out on my Bowflex Treadclimber 5000 in my bedroom. The picture and sound go off on my standard receiver, but it does not say searching for signal. This only happens when the treadclimber treadles are in motion. The picture and sound comeback when the treadles stop...even if the treadclimber is still on. I later checked the effect it had on my HD receiver in the living room and it would say searching for Satellite signal 771. I have to push the red reset button for the HD receiver to function again. I know this is a very unique case and there probably is no reasonable explanation for this, but i figured i would try. BTW, the treadclimber has a dedicated ground (circuit)that i had an electrician install.
Answer Hi Victor,
That is a strange one for sure, do you know if both satellite receivers are on the same circuit?
How are your satellite receivers connected to your televisions?
It sure sounds like either AC or RFI interference is being generated by the treadmill. Have you tried powering the satellite receiver through a UPS (uninterruptable power supply)? You can get them for like 50 bucks and they have very good filters.
