Home Theater - Connecting 2 systems at home sharing the same DVD, Apple TV, Direct TV

Expert: M A Khan - 10/11/2009

Question
How do I share the same sources with 2 separate stereos? The 1st system is an Adcom preamp and amp with a single pair of speakers. The second system is a Sony receiver with 2 pairs of outdoor speakers already wired and connected. I use the receiver for the outdoor speakers only. I want to wire the systems so I can share the DVD for audio, Apple TV for audio, and the Direct TV for audio.

Please help!

Answer
Hello Marshall,
In order for you to do this, you need to look at the inputs on your both systems. There must be 3 audio inputs on each system, Then split the audio out signal that is coming from DVD, Apple TV and Direct TV. You should have RCA audio out on each device, you need to buy 2 "Y" (RCA) splitters for each stereo connection you will make. These splitters will have 2 male and a female on this splitter. You also need a 3-6 feet long RCA red and white male to male cable.
Then connect each device to you two systems. In total you will have 6 splitters and 3, 3-6 feet long RCA cables.
Thanks
