Home Theater - blue ray connection to home theatre

Expert: Bobbert - 10/24/2009

Question
Hi, I have a Samsung HD/TV and a Samsung Blue Ray player. I have purchased a Samsung H322 Home Theatre System. How do I integrate the two. The Home system has 1 HDMI out and the Blue Ray Player has 1 HDMI out. This is what's confusing me>

Answer
There is no way to connect to the Blu-ray player to the HTIB receiver, if the HTIB unit has a Digital Audio In, you can pass a transcoded digital audio signal from the BR player, which would give you AC-3 or DTS 5.1 output to the HTIB receiver. This isn't ideal (you don't get the benefit of the lossless codecs found on BR discs), although it would work. If a digital audio input is unavailable, there is generally no "clean" way to connect the two, as you won't have surround sound from the BR player (which somewhat defeats the purpose of BR movies).

If you need clarification or have further questions, feel free to post a follow-up.
