Home Theater - multiple converter boxes

Expert: Bobbert - 10/1/2009

Question
I have an analog TV, an analog VCR, and two converter boxes.  I would like to set them up so that I can record one show and watch another (like we used to in the "old days" of last May), and play back the tape at a later time through the same TV.  That should be possible, shouldn't it?  What's the best way to do that?

For that matter, what's the best way to set up an anolog VCR with a digital TV?

Answer
Yes, this is possible. Connect the VCR's A/V outputs to the TV's A/V inputs, converter box A's A/V outputs to the VCR's A/V inputs, and converter box B's RF output (the screw on connector) to the TV's RF input.

To record on the VCR, set it to the A/V input, and set the channel you'd like with the converter box (so you'll need the TV set to the VCR just to see what you're doing), and then you can switch to the second converter box for watching TV while the VCR records.

As far as connecting the VCR to a newer TV, you'll use A/V outputs to the TV's A/V inputs, and bypass the ATSC digital tuner in the TV entirely.
