Home Theater - existing speaker connection to new sony.

Expert: Bobbert - 11/9/2009

Question
i have purchased a 32 inch Sony flatscreen. previously i owned a Panasonic with two extra speakers whose wires were laid under carpet and which connected by bare wires to spring operated clips on the back of the set.
can i purchase jack plugs to connect wires and plug into my new set.Sony shop said no and tried to sell me an expensive amplifier etc. can you help please.

Answer
The Sony shop is correct in this case, if they're telling you the television doesn't have an onboard speaker amplifier, you cannot connect speakers to it. You will need an external amplifier (or receiver) in order to connect speakers, especially surround sound, again, as the Sony shop said.
