Home Video/DVD - My DVD player cant play the DVD that I burned with nero.

Expert: Stephen Campbell - 10/10/2009

Question
Hello Mr. stephen, how are you? I've burned a dvd-RW using nero 8 which contains some .avi movies. I want to fit all my avi. movies in one DVD-RW and play it in my DVD player that would be displayed in my TV but the DVD player didn't recognized the dvd that I've made. I've chosen "Make Data DVD" when burning with Nero so that I can burn as many .avi movies that would utilize the big storage capacity of a DVD disk. I never tried using DVD writer before but I've already tried burning several CD-R/RW which contains .avi files using my old CD writer and it works perfectly on my DVD player. I would like to know why my DVD player cant recognize the DVD-RW that I made? How can I make a DVD that contains many .avi videos which can be played in my DVD player..pls help..God Bless!.....(PS: My dvd player supports DVD-RW and other disk)

Answer
Hi John,

First of all, sorry about the delay in getting back to you. This isn't actually my area, and I was going to link you to the relevant expert until I noticed that there is no longer such an expert! There used to be a guy who dealt with DVD burning software, but he's gone. As such, I tried to find out an answer for you myself. Sadly, I've failed.

My uncle is in computers, and I sent him your question and he basically told me that it could be a million and one things, that it would be impossible to diagnose online like this. He suggested that if you know anyone who's above average on computers, get them to have a look, or possibly drop into a computer/DVD repair place and run it past them. He also said it could literally be as simple as the fact that your DVD player has decided it doesn't like DVD-RWs.

As a final piece of advice, I would recommend you use Google. Put in the exact name and model of your DVD player, and then put in some other keywords, like DVD-RW or avi files, and see if that yields anything. At the very least you may end up on a forum where there are guys who quite literally live there and will answer any question you have. If doing such a specific search fails, then just search for DVD burning forum, and that should bring you somewhere.

Very sorry I could be of more help,
Best of luck,
Stephen.
