Honda - Driver's Side Power Window

Expert: Reiner V - 5/4/2009

Question
My driver's side power window (Honda 96 EX) worked this morning, but when I went on my lunch break, it did not.  I have a state inspection this month and need to have it fixed.  I checked under the hood and those fuses didn't appear to be damaged.  I couldn't tell with the ones under the steering wheel and couldn't locate the fuse clips.  Will I have to take apart my door?  If not a fuse, is this something that an average person could fix?  I recently started a new job and will not be paid for some time (and time is an issue).  Thanks.

Answer
Sorry to tell you Brooke, this is common with Hondas as they get older, your power window motor may be on its last leg, it starts off intermittent and eventually dies.

If you are not mechanically endowed, do not attempt this on your own, it requires removing the panel, removing the window regulator (raises and lowers the window) at key points, removing the old motor and replacing it with the new one. The worst part is putting back everything back together again and ALIGNING the regulator to make sure that the window raises and lowers properly.

All I can say is "Cuts all over your hands" from trying to work with the inner side paneling.
